Bob Maphosa, Sports Marketing Manager for adidas South Africa shares some insight into the inspiration behind the Club’s new home and away jerseys.

“Orlando Pirates is more than just a club … it’s a way of life for millions of South Africans. It’s an African icon with a unique history in South African football. It’s a club that stands for creativity and innovation, so we focused on bringing a new and unique element to this season’s kit, while staying true to the Club’s heritage.

The 2021/22 kit is a combination of old and new, with one jersey showcasing the club’s classic look, while the other introduces a fresh new design to highlight the Buccaneers’ youthful energy.

The home jersey gives a strong nod to a club that’s always respectful of its traditions, reimagining the iconic black colourway of Orlando Pirates, and introducing a subtle embossed skull and crossbones on the front of the jersey. It features a round neck collar, with the signature three white adidas stripes on the shoulder and red piping on the sleeve.

The away kit is where the club breaks with tradition. Following last season’s bold orange away jersey, the 2021/2022 away kit is a striking mint colour, with white cuffs and a V-neck. The embossed skull and crossbones is offset on the side of the jersey, depicting the club’s constant progression.

As South Africa’s most-loved team, the Orlando Pirates kit is one of the club’s major links to their fans. It’s what they see, wear and identify with when supporting their team. We certainly hope that the fans will love the new kit as much as we do, and that it gives them a sense of pride when wearing the shirt.

We’ve had a long-standing partnership with Orlando Pirates and adidas is a proud supporter of the Buccaneers on and off the field. We can’t wait to see the new kit worn for the first time on the pitch during the Carling Black Label Cup on Sunday 1 August.”

The Orlando Pirates 2021/22 home and away jerseys are currently available from the Pirates Shop at Orlando Stadium, and online at or as well as at the adidas Sandton Flagship Store. From 26 July, the new home and away jerseys can also be purchased at the adidas concept stores and select sports retailers across the country at R999 for the adult men and women’s jerseys, and R899 for the kids’ jersey.
